Duivelskral is an exceptional gin: Stokerij Klopman's/Klopman Distillery's first distillate. Its name, 'Devils curl', goes back to an Old Dutch folk name for the juniper berry, the botanical dry gin owes its unique taste to.
Duivelskral is a finely distilled, handcrafted Dutch dry gin, on the basis of six botanicals, which are first macerated– soaked in alcohol – and then added to the still. Its taste profile is robust but balanced; pleasantly spicy, with subtle, fresh citrus aromas. The Nepalese Timut peppercorn (belonging to both the Szechuan pepper and the citrus families) is one of the spices/botanicals used. This berry grows high in the Himalayas, and contains all the aromas which are so characteristic for Duivelskral.In a cocktail, Duivelskral tastes best in combination with a 'neutral' tonic, the perfect ratio being one part gin to two to three parts tonic. In my opinion, gin tonic is best served in a cool, roomy cocktail glass, over lots of ice, and with a few balls of cucumber, a slice of ginger and some timut peppercorns.
